ROUND 7: PICK 25 (244TH OVERALL) JACQUES PATRICK, RB (FLORIDA STATE)

Last, but not least, the KC Chiefs add some depth at the running back position with their selection of Jacques Patrick in the seventh round. Patrick rushed for 1,412 yards and 16 touchdowns in three years with the Seminoles.

In 2017, Patrick had 134 carries for 748 yards and seven touchdowns. In the seasons prior to that he was the backup to Dalvin Cook, but still managed to get a decent amount of carries. Last season was Patrick’s opportunity to step it up a bit and he looked good for Florida State.

The Chiefs have Kareem Hunt as their obvious starter at running back, but this is a position unlike any other in the league. Running backs don’t have a long shelf life and tend to get banged up easier than most positions, which means it’s always crucial to have several backups on the roster who are ready to go.

Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West will both be capable backups, but Ware is coming off an ACL injury and West was hurt frequently last season. Drafting a young running back is a smart investment because the position brings so many injuries these days.

Jacques Patrick was hurt in his senior season at Florida State, but still put up a respectable stat line. He’s worth taking a shot on for sure.
