Kansas City Chiefs: 2017 Rookie Breakdown
Running back: Kareem Hunt
There is no doubt who the Kansas City Chiefs top rookie was this past season. It was an incredible debut for Kareem Hunt. Kareem “the Dream” Hunt, “Kareem” of the Crop.. or how about the NFL 2017 Leading Rusher?
Yes, he can be explained in about every different way possible. Kareem Hunt was drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft. When Dorsey drafted him, I didn’t quite understand why Dorsey went with the prospect out of Toledo University. There were plenty of other running back options available that made more sense in my mind.
Per usual, I was completely wrong. With how things turned out for Kareem Hunt in his rookie season, I am more than okay with having him on the Chiefs roster. Way more okay with him on the roster compared to some other rookie running backs. Hunt is just special, and he adds another dynamic to the offense, which makes the team that much more talented.
For being the most seasoned rookie for the Chiefs, I find it hard to find things to write about for Kareem Hunt. Not because he is boring, and does nothing worth talking about, but because we all know the story. The story of the unknown becoming the best running back in the NFL in 2017.
Kareem Hunt is something special. His balance after contact, and his nature for the game makes him one of the best rushers in the NFL. I fully expect Hunt to have one heck of an NFL career in the years to come. Simply because, 2017 was not a fluke, and Hunt is the running back he presented himself to be.
For the Chiefs, Kareem Hunt had 1,327 total rushing yards in the regular season, and eight touchdowns. 1,327 was the lucky number during his rookie season, because not only did Hunt lead all rookies in rushing yards, but he led the entire NFL.
Kareem Hunt was selected in the mid-third round by the Kansas City Chiefs. Due to his excellent rookie season, Hunt will be in the backfield for the Chiefs for many seasons to come.
