5 reasons the Chiefs will be better in 2018

#4 New OC influencing the run game.

The Chiefs must run the ball more. The lack of coaching cooperation in the running game had a ton to do with Kansas City staying home instead of currently playing football. In fact, in all but two of seven games last season that resulted in losses, the NFL’s leading rusher had under 11 carries.

The last sentence says a lot for how the Chiefs season went. Self inflicted losses due to the simple lack of not understanding football. Kansas City was never in a game where they were so far down they were forced to throw for a half. Yet, that is what the Chiefs had done over and over.

With former running backs coach Eric Bieniemy as the new offensive coordinator, the run attempts should go up. Now if Reid continues to do the play-calling Eric has his work cut out for him. With Matt Nagy now in Chicago, Eric has the likely responsibility of “taking over the play-calling” in 2018, much like Nagy did this past season.

Bieniemy knows his running backs, so despite the obstacle of Reid’s play-calling the running game should be better and have more attempts per game, especially when the team has an 18 point lead at halftime.
