Kansas City Chiefs: Replacing Bob Sutton
#9 Al Harris: DB Coach – Chiefs
Truth be told, I hadn’t considered Al Harris as an option as the next Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator. However, I’ve had several people ask me about this, so I’m going to include him in the mix. Al Harris was once one of the most technically sound corners in the NFL. He’s turned that into a coaching job that has had some successes.
Al Harris hasn’t been coaching for long. However, we have seen some players step up during his time here. We’ve also seen some players fail to develop. That happens, and isn’t all on coaching, but it has to be noted. That is especially true of a guy who doesn’t have a long resume to fall back on.
I think it is still too early in his coaching career for Al Harris to be handed the keys. Kansas City would do much better with an established guy, in my opinion. Still, there is something to be said about former players becoming coaches. It is possible that Harris has impressed the right people behind the scenes.
