With the retirement of Carson Palmer, the Arizona Cardinals are left out in no man’s land at quarterback. The Kansas City Chiefs could absolutely take advantage of this and send Alex Smith to the Cards. Arizona has struggled to keep quarterbacks healthy in recent years, so Smith’s toughness should be appealing here.

It’s no secret that the Cardinals were one of the teams that wanted Patrick Mahomes last year. So the Chiefs could have set their chess board with the decision to trade up and get Mahomes. It now leaves them in a position to send Alex Smith to Arizona for a quality pick. Meanwhile, the Cards would get a quarterback that can at least guide them forward.
What kind of compensation are we talking about here? Well, the Cardinals are picking 15th this year, and that poses a problem for them. There are multiple teams ahead of Arizona that are likely to take a quarterback. So believe it or not, there is actually a chance that the Cards would give up their first round pick for Alex Smith.
