ALL-TIME LEADERS IN PASSING YARDS – NUMBER 9: VINCE FERRAGAMO (3,407)

Nebraska Quarterback in 1975 and 1976

Vince Ferragamo is another Nebraska quarterback who transferred over from the West Coast, spending the first two years of his college career at California. Ferragamo lost his starting job to Steve Bartkowski, so a change was in the foreseeable future.

He joined the Huskers in 1975, who were one of the best football programs in the country and had the potential to be even better with Ferragamo at the helm. The former California kid led them to a 10-2 record and an appearance in the Fiesta Bowl (which they’d lose to Arizona State).

Ferragamo finished his two year tenure in Lincoln with 3,407 passing yards and 34 touchdowns. He wasn’t like a lot of the other guys on here who could run well, but he was still a good quarterback in Tom Osborne’s system and had six rushing touchdowns in two seasons.

In his senior season in 1976, Vince Ferragamo threw for 2,254 yards and 22 touchdowns. The Cornhuskers went 9-3 and won the Bluebonnet Bowl over Texas Tech. Ferragamo would also rack up a bunch of academic awards as a senior.

Even in just two seasons as a member of the Nebraska football team, Vince Ferragamo cracked the top ten on the all-time passers list, coming in at number nine.
