Martinez got to see starting time right away in 2010, throwing for 1,631 yards and ten touchdowns as a freshman while adding 965 yards on the ground with12 rushing scores. The Huskers would go 10-4 that season and lose in the Holiday Bowl.

Martinez’s best stretch of success while at Nebraska was during his sophomore and junior seasons. Both seasons he threw for over 2,000 yards and in that 2012 campaign, he had 28 touchdown passes to just 12 picks. Martinez rushed for over 1,000 yards as a junior in 2012 as well and had another ten touchdowns on the ground.

Nebraska made the move to the Big Ten while Taylor Martinez was the quarterback and they looked like a force to be reckoned with in the first two years. Martinez led them to a first place finish in the Big Ten Legends conference in Nebraska’s second year in the conference.

Unfortunately, Martinez struggled to stay healthy during his senior season in 2013 and appeared in just four games. He sits second all-time in passing yards though and he had a very memorable season in 2012, which Huskers fans will always remember him for.
