Nebraska Football: All-Time Leaders in Passing Yards
ALL-TIME LEADERS IN PASSING YARDS – NUMBER 3: ZAC TAYLOR (5,850)
Nebraska Quarterback in 2005 and 2006
Zac Taylor had one of the best statistical seasons in Nebraska football history. Before he transferred to Lincoln, he spent his 2003 season at Wake Forest, where he appeared in just three games and had one completion. In 2005, as a junior, Taylor finally got a chance to play for the Huskers and fans knew they had something special when watching this kid play.
That 2006 season was one of the best we’ve seen out of a Nebraska quarterback, at least passing wise.
The result wouldn’t be as good as his senior year (which we’ll get to in a bit), but Taylor still performed well. He threw for 2,653 yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior and led the Cornhuskers to an 8-4 record and a win in the Alamo Bowl.
That 2006 season was one of the best we’ve seen out of a Nebraska quarterback, at least passing wise. Taylor had 3,197 yards passing and 26 touchdowns to just eight interceptions. The Huskers went 9-5 and were barely edged out by Auburn in the Cotton Bowl that year. Zac Taylor would go on to be named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2006.
Taylor finished his two years at Nebraska with 5,850 yards and 45 touchdowns. Taylor was so good in 2006, that many had high hopes for Nebraska in year three of Bill Callahan’s tenure, even with a new quarterback in the system. Instead, the Huskers tanked the year after Taylor left, which eventually cost Bill Callahan his job as the head coach.
Zac Taylor might have been one of the few bright spots of the Bill Callahan era and he will still go down as having one of the best seasons ever for a Cornhusker quarterback. He sits third all-time in passing yards for Nebraska football.
