ALL-TIME LEADERS IN PASSING YARDS – NUMBER 4: DAVE HUMM (5,311)

Nebraska Quarterback from 1972-1974

Dave Humm spent three seasons as the main quarterback for the Nebraska Cornhuskers and saw quite a bit of success there. Spending time under both Bob Devaney and Tom Osborne, Humm passed for 5,311 yards and 42 touchdowns during that three-year span.

Surprisingly, Humm’s stats actually declined over the years. He threw for 2,259 and 18 touchdowns as a sophomore in 1972 and didn’t hit the 2,000 yard mark again as Nebraska’s quarterback.

Dave Humm hasn’t taken a snap for Nebraska in over 40 years yet he’s still fourth all-time in passing yards.

Even with Humm’s declining numbers, the Huskers still won all three bowl games they played in with him as their quarterback. All three were New Year’s bowl games as well with wins in the Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, and Cotton Bowl from 1972-1974.

Humm went on to be a fifth round pick by the Oakland Raiders in the 1975 NFL Draft and would spend seven total years with the Raiders organization and win two Super Bowls with them. Humm spent a decade in the NFL with the Raiders, Bills, and Colts.

Dave Humm hasn’t taken a snap for Nebraska in over 40 years yet he’s still fourth all-time in passing yards. That shows how consistent he was during his three years as a member of the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
