Nebraska Football: All-Time Leaders in Passing Yards
ALL-TIME LEADERS IN PASSING YARDS – NUMBER 6: JERRY TAGGE (5,069)
Nebraska Quarterback from 1969-1971
Near the end of Bob Devaney’s tenure as the head coach at Nebraska, he had Jerry Tagge as his quarterback, who sits just outside the top five in all-time passing yards. He threw for a total of 5,069 yards and 32 touchdowns in three seasons.
During Tagge’s time as a Husker, he led his team to three first place finishes in the Big 8 and to three bowl game victories, two of which were in the Orange Bowl. The 1970 and 1971 seasons saw Nebraska go undefeated and they ended the year as National Champions.
Tagge would hear his name called in the first round of the 1972 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. Though he did not have a ton of success in the NFL, Tagge is still considered to be one of the best quarterbacks to ever don a Nebraska uniform.
Leading a team to two National Championship titles is a huge accomplishment, which is why Tagge is still highly thought of in Lincoln. He’s sixth all-time in passing yards even four decades after taking his last snap as a Cornhusker.
