Kansas City Chiefs fans are already upset over the team’s rough playoff loss, but now they’re also losing their offensive coordinators. Matt Nagy is headed to Chicago as their next head coach and Brad Childress is retiring.

Man, talk about a rough couple of days for the Kansas City Chiefs. They lose in embarrassing fashion in the Wild Card round and now are losing not one, but two of their offensive coordinators.

Matt Nagy had been linked with some teams for their potential head coaching vacancy due to how electric the Kansas City offense looked near the end of the regular season. He’s now been hired to become the next head coach of the Chicago Bears.

Nagy took over the offensive play calling for the Chiefs after three straight losses and the Chiefs went on to put up at least 26 points a game after that. The Bears drafted Mitchell Trubisky with the second overall pick and it was rumored that Nagy loved Trubisky coming out of North Carolina, so this made all kinds of sense for both sides.

Nagy did a great job with the KC Chiefs offense (we’ll assume Andy Reid was calling the plays on Saturday) and he should be able to help Trubisky develop into a top quarterback in the league. Chicago had a decent defense last year, but their offense needs some serious work. Nagy should be able to turn the Bears’ fortunes around.

As for Brad Childress,  the other Chiefs offensive coordinator, he’s looking to retire. This now opens up the offensive coordinator position in Kansas City.

While jokes will be aplenty, especially after that bad playoff loss, there are a lot of positives with this Chiefs offense. For one, Patrick Mahomes will be in his first year as the starting quarterback and he’ll have a slew of weapons at his disposal.

With names like Tyreek Hill, Kareem Hunt, and Travis Kelce (just to name a few), the offensive coordinator position will be a very attractive one. It’s very possible that Andy Reid and the Chiefs promote from within the organization, and if so, Eric Bieniemy is a strong possibility.

Bieniemy deserves a chance as the offensive coordinator. He’s been the running backs coach in Kansas City since the 2013 season and has done an outstanding job in that role. Bieniemy was previously an offensive coordinator at Colorado before coming to the Chiefs, so he has experience as a play caller.

Fans knew this offseason would bring a whole lot of change to the Kansas City Chiefs organization and this is just the first of many big moves to occur. Not many of us predicted that Childress would also leave though.

Best of luck to Matt Nagy in Chicago and congrats to Brad Childress on his retirement!
