Wish # 5 – Looking ahead: A Franchise Quarterback
Patrick Mahomes II, where many eyes look towards when the word “future” is brought up, revolving around the Kansas City Chiefs. As everyone knows, Mahomes was drafted tenth overall by the Chiefs in the 2017 NFL draft. For being so young, Mahomes owns plenty of hype.
Time will tell for Mahomes.
Alex Smith has been useful, and he got the Chiefs going in the right direction. Fans now expect Mahomes to push the franchise over the top.
His arm strength, speed, and field vision give Mahomes a ceiling higher than any player on the Chiefs roster. When fans get tired of check-down throws by Smith, Mahomes gets all of the attention. His cannon for an arm will create a quarterback that is a polar opposite for the Chiefs.
After giving up draft picks to draft Mahomes, the front office is under plenty of pressure if Mahomes does not work out. But despite the pressure, Mahomes seems to be the right quarterback for the Chiefs, and he will be far from a bust.
Time will tell for Mahomes, but if he works out – the Chiefs easily found their franchise quarterback the organization has been searching for.
