We’re getting to the point now where Christian McCaffrey being considered a running back isn’t all that accurate. That’s what the Panthers intended to use him for, but McCaffrey has been more of a receiver for Cam Newton and the Carolina offense.
Recently, the rookie out of Stanford has been more utilized each week and found the end zone on Sunday against the Packers. This week the Panthers will host the lowly Buccaneers, who have been really bad against the run.
While McCaffrey isn’t a true running back, expect the Panthers to get him some carries this week. At the very least, he’ll continue to get targets from Newton and should find the end zone at least once.
Next season will probably see McCaffrey being switched to a wide receiver, but for now, enjoy the fact that you can slot him in as an RB1 or RB2.
