Jayhawks Football recruiting: Early signing period primer
By Ben Almquist
The NCAA early signing period is here and there will be a lot of decisions made. Here is what to look out for with the Jayhawks football program.
Nothing has been going right for Jayhawks football on the field over the past three years. Kansas is in the middle of the worst three season stretch in program history. Despite that, the school has decided to stick with head coach David Beaty. What he needs to do now is reward that loyalty by landing a strong recruiting class.
To that end, you really can’t be upset with the start that David Beaty has gotten off to. Of course Kansas isn’t drawing in a high-end recruiting class, but they have landed some quality talent. That’s all this program can really hope for right now as they continue what is becoming a very long rebuilding process.
The Jayhawks could especially use some help on the defensive side of the ball. Apart from Southeast Missouri State, KU didn’t hold a single opponent under 30 points all season. Clearly some defensive help is needed. Fortunately, that appears to be exactly where Kansas is focusing its efforts.
The Jayhawks have managed to grab a couple of 4-star players into the fold, and that’s a huge step in the right direction for the program. However, there is still a ways to go. KU is getting ambitious with some of their targets, so it will be interesting to see if they can get one of them to sign.
In the meantime, here is how the recruiting program currently looks in Lawrence, Kansas…
