CON NUMBER THREE – HOW WILL THE TEAM RESPOND?

If the staff of the Kansas City Chiefs were to place Mahomes at quarterback number one, everything is peachy, correct?

Incorrect – think of how giving up on Smith would change the mood of the team. Sure, there are plenty of players hoping for a change at quarterback soon, but there are also players focused on this team in general, and what they’ve accomplished together.

So replacing a quarterback mid-season, after a 5-0 start could strike as a “white flag” thrown up by the staff, giving up on this team, and what it has endured together. The NFL is a business-based concept, meaning sometimes feelings interchange, but that doesn’t solve the fact that many players think the season is done-for, by adding a rookie behind center.

Changing quarterbacks after this season seems more logical, although Alex Smith is struggling, and he is struggling bad.
