KC Chiefs: Pros and cons of starting Patrick Mahomes this season
By Kyle Hull
PRO NUMBER TWO – LIGHT A NEW FIRE FOR SMITH AND THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
“Bench Smith, that will teach him”, was something that was said frequently at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday afternoon against the Bills. Honestly, whoever said that, could be right. Maybe sending Smith to the sidelines for a bit, and let Mahomes rub in his gunslinging mentality will start the fire that was lit at the beginning of the season.
Smith needs a wake-up call, because his performances are not acceptable. He needs something to show him how vital he is, and perhaps give him his confidence back to where it once was.
If I were Reid, I would bench Smith next week. Let Mahomes go to work, and if he is succeeding, keep him there, but if he is showing the growing pains, put Smith back in, but only when his lesson is learned.
Whether it be four snaps, four possessions, or four quarters, perhaps making Smith sit on the sidelines, and think about what he is doing wrong, might do the trick on waking Smith up.
Somewhere deep inside of Smith lies the soul belonging to MVP-caliber Smith, and it needs to be revealed as soon as possible.
Benching Smith is a good idea for many reasons, especially if it is to wake him up, and hope it gets him going, once again.
