There are two immediate questions to answer in the aftermath of the Iowa State game.
- What bowl game?
- Was this the last home game for Bill Snyder?
Bowl Game
With K-State finishing in a four-way tie for fourth place in the big12, this was always going to be difficult. So, this morning I consulted four different experts doing bowl projections and I got four different predictions. The four bowls in play are

Saturday Blitz
- Texas Bowl in Houston
- Liberty Bowl in Memphis
- Cactus Bowl in Arizona
- Heart of Dallas Bowl in Dallas
I listed them in order and assuming OU goes into the CFP, it should be against Texas, West Virginia, and Iowa State. My guess at this point is
- Texas
- WVU
- ISU
- K-State
I believe the Heart of Dallas Bowl representatives will be ecstatic to have K-State fall to them. I think it has a chance as I think there might be a bit of Arizona fatigue among K-State and the Cactus bowl.
Was this Bill Snyder’s Last Home Game?
Logic dictates yes. He’s 78 years old, battling cancer, and is on a crazy hotstreak winning these two games and finishing 4th. K-State fans wanted better, but they still were picked third preseason and only fell to fourth. There is a quarterback of the future already here, making it much easier for the next guy. All the facilities are built. It’s a perfect time to transition power.
So…… My answer is no. It’s not the end. This is a man who still wants his son to take over and doesn’t care how that effects his legacy. Athletic Director Gene Taylor is on the record as saying he can be here as long as he likes.
Snyder should retire and enjoy some real family time. I do not think he’s actually thinking about doing it. By not announcing anything before the game to allow for a celebration or announcing it shortly thereafter, it feels like he’s still positioning for what he wants. I fear he may try to resign closer to next season to force the Sean Snyder plan in motion. I hope for everybody’s sake, that this isn’t even an option.
