The Kansas City Royals roster could have a lot of new names in 2018, and those players will be wearing new caps for Spring Training and batting practice.

The start of 2018 MLB Spring Training is still months away, and the Kansas City Royals have a lot of decisions to make before that date. One matter is already settled, however, months ahead of the start of another season in Surprise, Arizona. That aspect is what the players will be wearing on their heads.

Just ahead of the holiday shopping weekend, New Era has unveiled the 2018 MLB Spring Training and batting practice hats for the Royals and the rest of the league. The caps feature several new aspects for 2018.

The team logo on the front of the cap is an alternate rendition, featuring a cursive capital R and a crown. In addition to it being a new design, the composition of the logo is new as well. Instead of being embroidered, it’s a beveled rubber badge. The same composition is true for the MLB logo on the rear of the cap.

For the past five seasons, these hats that players have worn have featured an embroidered New Era logo on the cap’s side. The placement hasn’t changed, but that logo is now a silicone printing. Most importantly, the polyester material that the cap’s skull is composed of is a new fabric called PROLIGHT, which New Era says is 26 percent lighter than its predecessor. New Era also claims that the material is the lightest that has ever born worn on-field in MLB history in a press release.

Tony DeSimone, Baseball Business Unit Director at New Era, commented on the new caps in the press release.

"“New Era is proud to continue raising the bar in performance headwear and excited to introduce the PROLIGHT 59FIFTY caps that will be added to the on-field Authentic Collection beginning in 2018. We worked tirelessly with our internal Product Management team and consulted with a handful of MLB players and Club equipment managers to create a cap that performs better on the field of play. We also made sure to add an on-trend look and feel that players and baseball fans everywhere will enjoy.”"

MLB Executive Vice President of Business Noah Garden echoed DeSimone’s sentiments.

"“New Era has again brought popular performance headwear trends and innovative applications to an on-field product that helps define our sport. The new PROLIGHT 59FIFTY caps look and feel fantastic. The feedback from players, including Buster Posey and Bryce Harper, has been very positive, so we think our fans will also be enthusiastic about the new style.”"

There will be a lot of buzz about the Royals going into 2018, as the roster could look very different from what it did to end 2017. Regardless of who is wearing the Royals hats, New Era has made sure that they will look good.
