Kansas City Chiefs: Report Card vs New York Giants in Week 11
Alex Smith was probably never going to win the MVP award, but he’s definitely out of the running after his horrendous outing in the Meadowlands. Smith looked downright awful even though his stats don’t necessarily indicate that.
Is it time for Mahomes yet? No, it’s not, but football fans are fickle.
Smith went 27 of 40 for 230 yards and had two interceptions. He’s now thrown three interceptions in his last two games.
I like Alex Smith and I’m not calling for Patrick Mahomes, but other fans aren’t feeling the same way. Smith deserves some heat after this bad game. Aside from that final drive in regulation that led to the Chiefs tying things up, he looked really uncomfortable throwing the football.
Smith was on fire to begin the season, but it’s clear that we’re back to the old Alex Smith. He made poor decisions, one of the biggest being running with the football with only 11 seconds left in the game. Smith should have thrown it away and the team would have had a chance to score a touchdown still.
Is it time for Mahomes yet? No, it’s not, but football fans are fickle. If Smith plays this poorly again next week against the Bills, I’m not sure I’ll be able to continue defending starting him.
