ROYALS FREE AGENTS THIS WINTER – ALCIDES ESCOBAR

Out of the four big names, Alcides Escobar is the one who tends to be forgotten. It’s understandable, as Escobar was the weakest offensively of the four.

While the Royals have Raul Mondesi in waiting at shortstop, Escobar could be someone the Royals attempt to bring back. He started all 162 games in three of the last four seasons and has been a really good defender during his time in Kansas City.

Escobar’s offensive production has been declining recently, but he finished 2017 with a slash line of .250/.272/.357 with six home runs. The Royals tried sliding him into the leadoff spot for old times sakes, but it didn’t work out so well.

While Mondesi is certainly the future at shortstop, Escobar is certainly someone who could return to the Royals for a reasonable cost. The question is will the Royals feel comfortable postponing Mondesi taking over for another season?
