ROYALS FREE AGENTS THIS WINTER – MELKY CABRERA

The Royals indicated they were all in at the trade deadline when they acquired Melky Cabrera from the Chicago White Sox. Cabrera went on to slash .269/.303/.399 in 58 games for the Royals.

The acquisition of Cabrera was mainly because the Royals needed another bat to help solidify their lineup, but he ended up spending all but four games in the outfield rather than at the designated hitter spot.

No one is really discussing bringing Cabrera back this offseason, which isn’t shocking. He’s 33 years old and while he can still hit for power, he won’t be worth the money that some teams are going to offer him.

The Royals have options in the outfield and if they were to bring back any outfielder this offseason, I think we all know who that’d be. We’ll get to him in a bit.
