Wow, suggesting for owners to start Alex Smith and sit Matt Ryan… The 2017 season really is weird! Matt Ryan won MVP last year and got his Falcons all the way to the Super Bowl. This year, however, he has not been that same type of player.
The big difference for Ryan this year is his interception rate. Last year, the MVP quarterback threw just seven interceptions in 16 regular season games. Ryan has already been picked off six times in just seven games this season.
Ryan’s chances of having a great game in week nine aren’t all that high, as Atlanta will play the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers have one of the better defenses in the league and Ryan has, for the most part, struggled against good defenses.
It might seem weird to bench Matt Ryan this week, but the match-up isn’t there for him this week.
