UGLY: FIRST POSSESSION

There have been some really bad games for Mizzou’s offense this year and the first possession of the game on Saturday looked like we might be seeing another one of those games. As mentioned on the bad section, the first two plays of the game were penalties for offensive holding and that put MU on their own 11-yard line.

On first and 17 from their 11-yard line, Ish Witter had an 11-yard carry. Drew Lock then had an incomplete pass on second down, but hit Witter on third down that should have gone for a first down. Witter slipped, however, and that led to the Tigers punting on their first possession.

With the punt team on the field, the snap sailed over punter Corey Fatony‘s head and into the Tigers’ end zone for a safety. That gave UConn a 2-0 lead before Missouri even knew what hit them.

Of course, Mizzou would go on to control the game and limit the Huskies to just 12 points, but this was not a good way to start for the Tigers. Had this been against an SEC opponent (or even just a more competitive team), then MU probably would have let this effect them more than it did.
