Mizzou football is on a winning streak, baby! They’ve now won their last two games, beating up on the Connecticut Huskies by a score of 52-12 on the road. It was Mizzou’s first road win since the 2015 season.
While the 2017 season hasn’t been sunshine and sprinkles for the Missouri Tigers football team, things have been a little bit better recently. For one, the team is back in the win column, reigning victorious in their last two games.
Fans have seen that when the Tigers offense is on point, they’re nearly impossible to stop. That has been the issue, however, is that the offense has struggled against good or even just average teams. They do beat up on the lesser teams though, which is exactly what they should be doing.
The defense did its part in this game too, holding the Huskies to just 12 points all game long. The Tigers kept UConn’s offense out of the end zone until the end of the third quarter, which was great to see.
So, with another game in the record books, let’s take a look at the good, the bad, and the ugly from this game against the Connecticut Huskies.
GOOD: DEFENSE
There has been criticism surrounding Mizzou’s defense this season, but they did well against UConn’s offense. As I mentioned above, they kept the Huskies out of the end zone until the end of the third quarter.
MU also limited UConn quarterback Bryant Shirreffs to going 19 of 39 for 202 yards with no touchdowns, but they also didn’t pick him off. The Huskies had one receiver go for over 100 yards (Hergy Mayala caught nine passes for 116 yards) and the running game had a total of 121 yards on the ground off 41 carries.
So, was it a perfect outing for Missouri’s defense? No, but they held the Huskies to just 12 points and perhaps this will be the defense we see for the duration of the season.
