K-State, now back at .500 on the year, limps into a near must-win showdown against Texas Tech in Lubbock next week.

More from Kansas State Wildcats

The Red Raiders sit at 4-4 after losing to Oklahoma and want to take that next step to bowl eligibilty as well. Look for Texas Tech to be favored by three to four points as the home team.

The Wildcats also suddenly have a weird quarterback situation as Alex Delton has concussion issues, Jesse Ertz still has a bum knee, and Skylar Thompson made his first extended appearance. Ertz probably provides the best path towards bowl eligibility, but clearly still isn’t healthy enough to be taking snaps on game day.

If it was me, I think Thompson has the most long-term potential so I’d start building for the years to come, however, I actually expect Delton to get the start next week.

The question for K-State will continue to be can they get to bowl eligibility? It takes six wins and K-State has four. Judging from the KU game, the outlook is bleak. KU is a badly run program with a coach who shouldn’t be there next year, though from a K-State fan, I certainly hope he is.

The Jayhawks provide no threat on offense or defense to most teams and yet both units challenged K-State today. It’s time for the K-State coaching staff to wake up and right the ship.
