124. FPI might be singing a different tune if the Chiefs lose a third straight game in Week 8 to the Broncos, but for now, the Chiefs are an overwhelming favorite to win the AFC West. Not a big drop for the Kansas City Chiefs in the ESPN power rankings, but still a drop. You can’t be too hard on this kind of a move. The Chiefs have lost two in a row, so keeping them at the top of the league just can’t be justified for most of your mainstream sports media outlets.
It is kind of tough for me to swallow the fact that Kansas City has beaten the two teams ranked ahead of them here. Ok, the Eagles have just one loss, so that isn’t too tough. However, the Patriots are holding the same record as the Chiefs right now. I’m just not buying the Pats as the better team.
I don’t expect the Chiefs to linger long at this spot. Kansas City’s schedule finally seems to slack off a bit over the next few weeks. They should have a number of winnable games, plus their BYE week coming up. I think we’ll see KC back on top soon.
