Kansas City Chiefs: The Day After losing to Pittsburgh
By Chris Taylor
The Kansas City Chiefs Offense
Pittsburgh came to play on the defensive side of the ball as well. Their game plan dictated what the Chiefs did on offense.
They only had to contain Kareem Hunt nine times before the Chiefs quit trying to run, literally.
Alex Smith couldn’t seem to connect on anything beyond three yards in the passing game.
Pittsburgh’s defense made the Chiefs offense their personal punching bag in the first half.
They held the Chiefs to six yards of offense for two full quarters. The same explosive offense that led the league in scoring and yardage.
Vince Williams sacked Alex Smith twice and James Harrison got a sack at the end of the game to ruin the Chiefs chances.
Alex Smith was hit 9 times during this game. He didn’t have two of his original blockers or two of his top three receivers at his disposal in this one, and it showed.
Zach Fulton snapped the ball over Smith’s head early in the game for a safety. Eric Fisher struggled all game. The offensive line was close to awful.
Alex Smith was mediocre. His numbers were mediocre. He was 19 of 34 for 246 yards and a touchdown. His security blanket didn’t do much more.
Kareem Hunt was held to 21 yards on nine carries. He did add five catches for 89 yards as he passed over 100 yards of scrimmage for the 6th straight game.
Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce had nine catches between them for a meaningless amount of yards.
DeAnthony Thomas came up huge late with the 57 yard touchdown catch and run.
