C. . QB. . ALEX SMITH

Alex Smith had been playing like the league MVP throughout the first five games, but he looked like his 2013-2016 self in this one. To be fair, the offensive line was atrocious and nothing was happening in the run game, so Smith had to step up a little more than expected.

While this was easily Smith’s worst game of the season, people better not be calling for Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs signal caller ended the day going 19 of 34 for 246 yards and a touchdown. Despite the not so great outing, he still hasn’t thrown for an interception through six games and has 12 touchdowns on the year. He needs three more to get to his total from a season ago.

Smith did miss a few wide open receivers (I believe it was Demarcus Robinson both times), but that play he made to De’Anthony Thomas that went for a touchdown was pretty fantastic. That’s what prevented me from flunking him this week. Smith never made those throws before this season.

While this was easily Smith’s worst game of the season, people better not be calling for Patrick Mahomes. Smith wasn’t solely the reason that Kansas City lost this game and demanding Mahomes is really stupid, so don’t be that guy (or gal) please.

Next up for Mr. Smith is the Raiders, a team he’s manhandled during his career (he’s 7-1 against them during his Chiefs career). Chiefs fans should feel pretty good about that match-up.
