The Defense

Before the season, I thought K-State would win eight or nine games. I thought the Wildcats had a ten win offense and a six win defense. At this point, I think I owe the defense an apology.

Trent Tanking had 13 tackles. Will Geary had four tackles and a tackle for loss. The unit combined to hold TCU to 98 yards rushing on 36 carries. That’s an impressive 2.7 yards per carry. It’s the worst performance by TCU on the year for running the football.

It forced TCU into passing it 37 times, their most attempts on the year. They found success to the tune of 297 yards and an 8 yard per attempt average. But that’s the hallmark of the bend but don’t break defense. They made TCU one-dimensional and held a team that had been averaging 45 points a game to 26.

There is more to be written about the K-State defense. They can’t keep letting up 300 yards of passing with little to no pressure on the quarterback. But they are gamers. They take their perceived short-comings and go out there and make something happen. It’s the complete opposite of the offense.
