The Kansas City Chiefs’ x-factor on their explosive 5-0 team is a recent third round pick, a rookie, and perhaps the best player in the NFL right now.

The sports media is currently overflowing with your stereotypical “Kareem Hunt is a freak football player, and here is why….” publications. The list goes on, and on, and then some, about Hunt and his stellar play. But, do people actually realize just how unheard of the Kansas City Chiefs rookie stats actually are?

My main objective as I write this, is not necessarily to add onto the bulk of  Kareem Hunt’s media portfolio, but to simply take the time to take a step back, and let Hunt’s rookie campaign take our breath away.

What makes Kareem Hunt so special?

Simply put – the Kansas City Chiefs own the steal of the 2017 draft. But what exactly makes Hunt so special? Is it his backstory? His heart on the gridiron? Or what about his superb college career?

Is it even possible to pinpoint one legit reason for Hunt being such a special football player? Probably not.

Hunt was drafted in the third round, 86th overall.  A former star out of Toledo University, Hunt was an under-the-radar prospect. He has the dominating traits to be a successful NFL football player. But the question that lingered the most was: Would his college success carry over into the NFL?

In my years of watching NFL running backs, I truly do not believe I have ever seen such impressive balance after contact during live action. This season, it seems it takes usually two or more players to drag him to the turf, though he still carries his forward momentum.

For how slow many scouts gave him credit for, Hunt is arguably the biggest water bug I have ever seen on the football field. His build allows him to brush off tackles, and his quick feet to juke out his opponents in the blink of an eye.

Chiefs fans, if you haven’t already figured it out, I will break the news on my own: Hunt is one of a kind.

Why is he one of a kind though? Well, it’s quite obvious actually – Kareem Hunt plays football the way Kareem Hunt plays football. That probably did not make sense, but it is the truth. His craft running the football is one of a kind, and the scary thing is – he is only a rookie.
