Kansas City Chiefs: The Day After Sunday night’s win at Houston
By Chris Taylor
2nd Quarter
Alex Smith led the Kansas City Chiefs down field again, only to come up short, again. Butker knocked his 2nd field goal through the uprights from 42 yards out.
Less than a minute later the Texans punted the ball back to Kansas City.
Smith moved the Chiefs down field again, as Kareem Hunt couldn’t get out of the backfield on multiple plays. After Smith was sacked on 2nd and three, he found Charcandrick West for an eight yard touchdown.
Two plays later Chris Jones knocked the ball from D’onte Foreman’s grasp and Derrick Johnson recovered, giving the Chiefs great field position at the Houston 31.
The Chiefs were unable to take full advantage of the turnover and settled for yet another Butker field goal.
Houston stormed down the field with big play after big play, and scored on a Watson pass to the back of the end zone to Deandre Hopkins. Houston finally gets on the board.
With just under two minutes left in the half Alex Smith took over, literally. Every yard gained on the Chiefs final drive of the half came via Smith. HIs footwork and throwing accuracy were on full display.
Travis Kelce was forced off the field due to a helmet to helmet hit. He would not return for the rest of the game as he was under concussion protocol.
With 34 seconds remaining after being helped out by defensive penalties, Smith found West once again for a touchdown.
23-7 as the first half is complete.
