BAD: RUN GAME

Running back rush attempts – 12

Quarterback rush attempts – 25

There are two parts to this story. First, there is the overall design of the game plan, which includes a two to one carry ratio to our quarterbacks. This is despite reports all week that the starting quarterback was hurt and may miss time. There’s no way to sugarcoat this, but it’s a stupid design. That part is on the coaching staff.

Secondly, it’s time to wonder what the running backs did in the offseason.

Alex Barnes

was a stud last year who provided great hope for the future. However, he’s turned into a tenative runner who doesn’t hit the hole like he used to.

There was an option run where all Barnes needed to do was go hard, however, he tried to keep bouncing the run outside and allowed a future first round draft pick in Malik Jefferson catch him. That can’t happen.

The final statistics look bad: 39 carries for 140 yards at a 3.6 yard per carry clip. Texas has been great the

last three games stopping the run

, so it’s understandable, but sometimes runners need to line up and be better.
