In the battle for infamy, unfortunately, there are plenty of candidates. We might as well just dive in.

BAD: DEFENSIVE LINE

Texas attempted 50 passes with a true freshman quarterback in Sam Ehlinger. Texas was also down three offensive lineman, including one of the best in all of college football. K-State, even with all of that going for them, managed to get zero sacks. The entire defense, on 39 rushing attempts, also managed to get four tackles for a loss.

To make matters worse, the d-line picked up a crucial late hit flag (which will be discussed further in the “ugly” section) and didn’t draw any hold calls.

Without the threat of pressure, the job was made significantly easier for Ehlinger, who responded quite nicely. There were too many plays were the quarterback draw flummoxed both the d-line and the linebackers and that helped Ehlinger run for over 100 yards.

It’s not a stretch to say the entire unit made very little impact.
