ROYALS PLAYER OF THE YEAR: NUMBER 1 – ERIC HOSMER

The player of the year for the Kansas City Royals was none other than Eric Hosmer! Hosmer had an amazing season in 2017 and absolutely deserves the top spot.

When there was a big moment, Hosmer was always there. He’s been the face of this franchise since being called up in 2011.

Hosmer appeared in all 162 games (whether as a first baseman or a designated hitter) and had 603 at bats during what could be his final year as a Royal. The end result was glorious and it should result in him getting paid this winter.

The Royals have needed Hosmer over the years, that much is clear. Once Hosmer started to pick it up at the plate, the Royals started to win games. When there was a big moment, Hosmer was always there. He’s been the face of this franchise since being called up in 2011.

After a spectacular season in Kansas City, it was hard not to put Eric Hosmer as the Player of the Year for the Royals. He had the best batting average, the most RBI, and the most runs on the team. He tied his career-high in home runs at 25 and was solid defensively. He should have been in the All-Star Game, but was passed in the voting last minute.

While it’s going to be a rough offseason for fans if Hosmer does depart for greener pastures, he’s done all he can do for the Royals. He won a World Series with this team and that’s huge. If he does come back, that’d be great, but I’m not going to get my hopes up.
