The Kansas City Royals had some great production from their players this year. Who were the best on the team in 2017?

While the 2017 season didn’t end the way Kansas City Royals fans were wanting it to, it was still a season that gave us some great moments. We were introduced to new players and said good-bye to some old ones at the same time. It was a bittersweet season to say the least.

With the season coming to a close and the postseason going on without the Royals, these next few weeks will be filled with going over different aspects of the 2017 season. First up is who the players of the year were for the KC Royals.

How this works is simple. I’ll simply give the best players from 2017 and will count up to the best one from the season. These shouldn’t be too shocking, but I’m sure some will disagree with the ordering of these players.

I mixed it up with both position players and pitchers and came up with a total of seven players worthy of being listed here. Let’s start with the seventh best player and work our way to the top of the crop.

ROYALS PLAYER OF THE YEAR: NUMBER 7 – LORENZO CAIN

  • Slash Line: .300/.363/.440
  • Home Runs: 15
  • RBI: 49
  • Runs: 86
  • Doubles: 27
  • Triples: 5
  • Stolen Bases: 26

Lorenzo Cain appeared in 155 games and 584 at bats for the Kansas City Royals in 2017 and was one of their best players. Sure, he wasn’t the LoCain of 2015, but that would be hard for anyone to replicate.

Cain not only did his part at the plate, but he was a great defender in the outfield too. His absence in center whenever the Royals would give him a day off was noticeable and it’ll be a bummer if Cain does sign elsewhere this offseason.

It was nice to see Cain rebound after a less than stellar 2016 campaign and it should get him a decent contract this offseason. His .300 batting average made him one of the team’s best players this year.
