WHAT WENT WRONG IN 2017 – LOSING RECORD ON THE ROAD & IN DIVISION

Last, but not least, we come to the fact that the Kansas City Royals had a losing record on both the road and within the American Central division. Kansas City posted a 37-44 record and went an underwhelming 34-41 in the AL Central. The only team they had a winning record against in the division was the Tigers.

Yes, they even had a losing record to the White Sox, who made it pretty clear they had given up on winning this year and were focusing on the future. That one hurt pretty bad.

If you have a losing record in the division, you’re not going to go very far.

By comparison, in 2015 when the Royals won the World Series, they went 44-37 on the road and 44-31 in the division. That played a huge part in getting them home field advantage for the postseason that year.

Simply put – If you have a losing record in the division, you’re not going to go very far. The AL Central might have had two playoff teams in the Indians and the Twins, but it also had the White Sox and Tigers, who were two of the worst teams in the league.

For what it’s worth – The Royals had a winning record at home. It wasn’t enough though, as we’re all watching the postseason from our couches, rather than at Kauffman Stadium.
