WHAT WENT WRONG IN 2017 – SCORELESS STREAK

The Royals’ offense was streaky all season long, but where it really was made evident was in late August when the team went 45 innings without scoring a run. For those of you that are wondering, that spanned over an entire series against the Indians and another game against the Rays.

It was during this time that I really knew the Royals’ playoff chances were over.

During that time, the Royals didn’t just lose, they got embarrassed by the opposition. Two of their four scoreless games were 12-0 losses.

It was during this time that I really knew the Royals’ playoff chances were over. They were still in the running, sure, but after seeing just how streaky that offense was, I had no confidence in them making a run in October.

The Royals were either really good at the plate or they were non-existent. There really wasn’t any in between. Postseason teams have slumps offensively too, but not to the extent that the Royals did in 2017. They nearly broke the all-time scoreless innings record, but came up short.
