WHAT WENT WRONG IN 2017 – INJURIES GALORE

A huge reason in why the KC Royals didn’t make the playoffs in 2016 was due to injuries and that could be applied here as well. Here were some of the players who hit the disabled list at some point in time this year:

  • These don’t include guys like Kelvin Herrera and Mike Moustakas, who were both clearly dinged up, but never went on the disabled list. Injuries absolutely killed the Royals’ starting rotation down the stretch (which we’ll get to later) and probably were the biggest blame in why Moustakas didn’t break the home run record sooner.

The biggest reason for why the Royals had success in 2014 and 2015 was that they were incredibly healthy. Those two seasons happened to have a lot of things go the Royals’ way whereas 2016 and 2017 weren’t as kind to this team.

When you’re relying on a significant amount of rookies to get the job done, winning games could be hard to come by. All of that good luck for the Royals finally caught up to them and the ball didn’t bounce their way in 2017.

I guess that’s what happens after winning a World Series.
