K-State Football: Report Card vs Baylor Bears
Let’s get this out of the way first. The K-State defense made some mistakes. Nobody is happy allowing two plays of 70 yards or more for touchdowns. That’s why they didn’t earn an A.
Outside of those two plays though, the defense played well. They were able to employ their classic “bend-but-don’t-break” style of defense and force Baylor to either get that 70 yard play or, not score a touchdown.
The K-State defense wasn’t perfect, but there were lots of bright spots.
Baylor’s two field goals came on drives of 16 and 13 plays and took over 14 minutes off the clock. It’s exactly what this K-State defense wants to force teams to do. Execute over lots of plays and then get frustrated and breakdown.
Kendall Adams deserves some praise again. He led the Cats in tackles and tacked on an interception. Will Geary was a monster, with two sacks (even more impressive as a defensive tackle) and three tackles for a loss. Davis Clark only had two tackles and one sack, but he made an impact. The entire unit racked up nine tackles for loss and defended five passes.
Baylor quarterback Zach Smith was able to get 291 yards passing, but that’s the point of this defense. He can get the yards, but he only gets one passing touchdown. Keeping teams out of the end zone is all that matters here.
The K-State defense wasn’t perfect, but there were lots of bright spots, and that’s the best news KSU fans can ask for.
