Kansas City Chiefs: 5 Things To Watch
#5 Can the Chiefs keep Philip Rivers from beating them?
It seems like every year I have to get into this debate. There may not be a fan base more enamored with an opposing quarterback than Kansas City Chiefs fans are with Philip Rivers. Without fail, I will see far too many Chiefs fans warning how Rivers can beat KC by himself. So I’m going to get this out of the way.
No, he can’t.
In fact, the Chiefs have been doing a pretty good job of corralling Philip Rivers over the past few years. Yes, he will put up some impressive stats more than likely. However, Rivers has not proven that he can beat this Kansas City team, going 0-6 against them over the past three years.
The key here will be the Kansas City pass rush, especially Justin Houston. That has been the key to beating Philip Rivers for some time now. Harass him and put him on his back. The Chiefs didn’t have Houston in last year’s close season opener. This year, Houston and the rest of the KC pass rush should control the day.
