Kansas State Wildcats Report Card

F. . . . K-STATE COACHING

I’m not sure there is much more to write on here, but in a game where the Kansas State Wildcats got over 200 yards rushing and held a team to 14 points, they managed to lose.

K-State also lost the turnover battle and were the more penalized team with seven penalties for 68 yards. It looked like a lack of preparation and attention to detail, which has slipped the last few years, but is still a calling card of a Bill Snyder coached team.

Sometimes, coaching feels like it can only be graded on a pass/fail system. You either put your players in a position to succeed, or you don’t. The coaching staff did not do that tonight.

F. . . . REFS AND REPLAY CREW

Let me say this as clearly as I can. K-State did not lose because of the refs. They had many opportunities to win this game. But in a night where nothing went right for K-State, the refs and replay crew managed to pile on.I know people don’t like to hear complaints about refs, because every losing team seems to blame them but stick with me here.

This crew had a rough night. The one call I want to highlight is the reversal on the fumble returned for a touchdown. I’m still not sure how this was reversed. ESPN showed about 10 different angles and there was never any proof that showed Shurmurs knee was down. According to the rules, the call had to be upheld, yet somehow, it wasn’t.

K-STATE FANS. A. . .

Well done K-State fans. The stadium looked purple and it was loud. I know Vanderbilt is used to that, with how other SEC schools fill their stadium, but I think everybody was shocked that a Big12 school from Kansas would treat them the same way.
