Kansas City Royals: Eric Hosmer Market Value
By Joel Wagler
What can the Kansas City Royals afford?
A lot of contracts, including Omar Infante‘s $8 million and Chris Young‘s $5.75 million, come off the books (though the Royals will owe those two a total of $3.5 million in buyouts, according to Spotrac).
The Royals might be able to fit that salary into their budget but there are other things to consider. Mike Moustakas, Lorenzo Cain, and Jason Vargas are also free agents, and while most hope the team can re-sign at least Hosmer, Moustakas, and Cain, it is highly unlikely they will have the money.
The combined contracts of Salvador Perez, Danny Duffy, Ian Kennedy, Jason Hammel and Alex Gordon will go up nearly $25 million. That will probably prevent the team from re-signing any more than one of their top free agents, if even that many.

It is probably going to be a brutal offseason for the Kansas City Royals and their fans. It will be interesting to see with whom players like Eric Hosmer will sign, and for how much.
Hosmer may have more value to the Royals than to the rest of the league but will the Royals be able to afford to keep him?
