Kansas City Royals: Eric Hosmer Market Value
By Joel Wagler
The Kansas City Royals’ star Eric Hosmer will become a free agent after the season. WIll they be able to re-sign their first baseman?
Eric Hosmer is just one of several Kansas City Royals whose contracts expire after the 2017 season. What will his value be on the open market and will the Royals be able to compete?
The Royals will probably go through the motions and offer Hosmer the standard one-year qualifying offer, which will be approximately $18 million for 2017. Most likely, Hosmer will refuse that offer and become a free agent.
Hosmer is still in the prime of his career. He will be just 28 years old in October and has seven years of experience under his belt. He can also boast plenty of post season experience with 31 playoff games under his belt, including 12 World Series games.
Hosmer is an interesting case in that he is a good hitter but not a great one. Over the past three seasons (with 18 games to go in 2017), his 162-game averages are pretty decent.
