Kansas City Chiefs Draft Prosepcts

Defensive Tackle

I loved the move to bring in Bennie Logan this year for the Kansas City Chiefs. Unfortunately, it’s just a one-year deal, so KC will have to be thinking about the future of the position next year. Finding a big man in the draft would be the best way to address the spot.

Vita Vea – Washington

There should be plenty of interest in Vita Vea in the upcoming draft. The big man is an absolute force in the middle of the Huskies defense. Vea played his role well this weekend as Washington held the Rutgers rushing attack largely in tact. The big DT didn’t put up big individual stats, but that’s not what you do at that position.

Lowell Lotulelei – Utah

The North Dakota running game went absolutely nowhere, and that had a lot to do with Lowell Lotulelei clogging the middle. Lotulelei didn’t rack up the stats, but as I said with Vita Vea, that’s not what the job is. The Utah big man commanded double-teams that allowed other players to attack the run. Perfect.

Da’Ron Payne – Alabama

He’s a little lighter than desired for a 3-4 defensive tackle, but Da’Ron Payne can flat out play. He proved that by being a force in helping the Tide shut down a very good Florida State team. Payne racked up several tackles and constantly found himself around the ball. The Chiefs will certainly have to keep an eye on him moving forward.
