TOP 15 DEEP SLEEPERS TO TARGET IN 2017 – NUMBER 9: MATT BREIDA

Running backs are so weird to predict in fantasy football because the big names go early on, but only a few actually merit being drafted that high. That’s because injuries hit the running back position pretty hard each year, giving no-name guys a chance to succeed.

That’s exactly what fantasy football owners could see with 49ers rookie Matt Breida. Breida went undrafted out of Georgia Southern and put up just 646 yards and three touchdowns during his final collegiate season. In the two seasons prior to that, Breida rushed for over 1,000 yards and had 17 touchdowns in both seasons.

It’s very possible that Breida sees some good playing time this year, potentially jumping Carlos Hyde, Tim Hightower, and rookie Joe Williams on the depth chart. Hyde has always been a casualty of the injury bug and we don’t know what to expect yet from Williams, who was a fourth round pick out of Utah.

The 49ers are going to be bad this year, especially at the quarterback position. That could give Breida some serious opportunities to prove himself and become a legitimate force in fantasy football.
