TOP 15 DEEP SLEEPERS TO TARGET IN 2017 – NUMBER 15: JARED GOFF

Okay, hear me out on this one. Yes, Jared Goff was incredibly underwhelming as a rookie, but the kid didn’t have much to work with in Los Angeles. Defenses obviously could sniff out Todd Gurley being Goff’s only weapon and there was the main issue for the Rams.

Another noteworthy topic: Goff didn’t even start for half of the season last year. The rookie started the final seven games of the year, which is rare for a number one overall pick to be on the sideline for that long. We soon saw why Goff was on the sidelines though, as he did not look good in year one.

The number one overall pick threw for 1,089 yards, five touchdowns, and seven interceptions during his seven starts and also rushed for a touchdown. The lack of weapons in Los Angeles did not help Goff in his first year as a pro, but now he’ll have Sammy Watkins and rookie Cooper Kupp at his disposal.

Obviously Jared Goff isn’t going to be a top ten quarterback this year and more than likely won’t even be a top 20 quarterback. “Mr. Perfect” (his nickname, according to Pro Football Reference), however, will see his numbers vastly improve this year, and will put up better fantasy numbers than many expect him to.

In no way am I saying to draft Jared Goff for your team. He’ll go undrafted in most leagues with the exception of two-starting quarterback leagues and that’s the way it should be. If Goff starts to look even slightly better, however, he’d be a nice option to have as a backup for your team.
