SEPTEMBER CALL UPS – RICHARD LOVELADY

The coolest name in all of the Royals farm system has to belong to pitcher Richard Lovelady, who is having a tremendous season in the minors. Lovelady is a 22 year old lefty pitcher, who is sporting a sparkling 1.70 ERA between two systems this year.

Lovelady is not on the 40-man roster, however, so someone would have to be removed in order for him to make an appearance at the K this September. While that’s not a crazy scenario, the Royals could opt to save Richard Lovelady for next year.

This is the only non-40-man roster candidate I included on this list. I’d love to see Richard Lovelady get his shot in the majors, even if just for a few innings of a blowout game, but it’d be nice to see what the future for Royals pitching looks like.

Lovelady has thrown a combined 63.2 innings in 40 games, which was split between Northwest Arkansas and Wilmington. It’d be cool to see him get his opportunity, but Lovelady is still young, so rushing him into a bigger role might not be ideal just yet.
