SEPTEMBER CALL-UPS – CAM GALLAGHER

Arguably one of the most memorable moments this season so far was when rookie Cam Gallagher hit a grand slam against the Oakland Athletics earlier this month. Gallagher got his first major league call-up when Salvador Perez had to spend some time on the disabled list and did quite all right honestly.

It’s very possible that Gallagher will be thrown into the catcher’s role more than people would have expected.

Where Gallagher really shone, however, was with catching for Jake Junis. The two worked together in Omaha, so it only made sense to have Gallagher be Junis’ catcher during his brief stint in Kansas City.

Gallagher was sent back down to the minors once Perez returned to action, but he’ll be utilized upon his return. Salvy still looks pretty dinged up, so it’s very possible that Gallagher will be thrown into the catcher’s role more than people would have expected.

During his five games with the Royals, Gallagher went 5-of-13 for a slash line of .385/.500/.692. Of course, this is a very small sample size, but seeing some pop from the 24-year old catcher is nothing to scoff at. He could potentially end up being Perez’s backup in the future.
