SEPTEMBER CALL UPS – KYLE ZIMMER

This one is unlikely, as Kyle Zimmer once again is missing time due to injury. Zimmer has yet to appear in a game for the Royals despite being a first round pick in 2012.

Zimmer could have offered a glimpse into what the future of Royals pitching could look like.

If Zimmer is able to return to Omaha and pitch an inning or two, then the Royals could decide to bring him up and stick him in the bullpen. I highly doubt this will happen, as the guy has proven he’s very fragile and might not ever go on to produce at the major league level.

With that said, the Royals sure could use Zimmer this year. Their bullpen is floundering in the second half of the season and the starters are just as bad. Zimmer could have offered a glimpse into what the future of Royals pitching could look like, but unfortunately, things just aren’t panning out for the former first rounder.

All of this is even more painful when you see Zimmer’s younger brother Bradley doing his thing in Cleveland and robbing the Royals of hits. The Royals even hitting the ball is a crazy enough sight, but then to see it getting stripped away is hurtful.

Just Kansas City’s luck, right?

Let’s not expect to see Kyle Zimmer called up next week. I included him here merely because if he does get healthy, then perhaps he’s a late, late, late call-up…. But let’s not get our hopes up.
