The Kansas City Royals are already in the midst of a 43-scoreless inning streak, only needing five more scoreless innings to break the all-time MLB record. Now, however, starting pitcher Danny Duffy has been charged with a DUI.

Just when Kansas City Royals fans think it can’t get any worse, and BAM! Something else happens that make us all wonder, “What the heck is going on?”

For one, the Royals are slumping hard right now. They’ve been shutout in their last four games and haven’t scored a run in 43 innings. Their last run came last Thursday when Brandon Moss hit a home run in the second inning against the Colorado Rockies. Could that be the last Royals run we see this season? It honestly feels that way, as ridiculous as it sounds.

Things have gotten even worse on Tuesday morning, however, as it was reported (and later confirmed by Dayton Moore) that starting pitcher Danny Duffy was arrested on DUI charges. Duffy was apparently passed out behind the wheel of his car while in the Burger King drive thru.

This week has just been awful for the Kansas City Royals and this news is yet another cherry on top of that crappy cake. Duffy was already on the disabled list, where he was placed over the weekend, but now he’s in a whole other topic of conversation.

According to Moore in the statement above, Duffy was home earlier than the rest of the team to get an MRI done. This incident occurred on Sunday evening.

We should all be fortunate that this wasn’t worse than just him passing out in his car while at Burger King. What if Duffy had been driving and passed out? What if he hurt someone else or himself? This could have been far worse.

We’ll obviously update everyone when we have more details on the arrest and what happened. For now, however, there isn’t a whole lot to go off of. Duffy has always seemed to be a very laid-back kind of guy and Kansas City loves him for that. He’s never been in trouble before so that’s why this news was very shocking to hear about.

It’s been a rough week for the Royals and this news only makes it more uncomfortable. Drinking and driving is no joke and let’s all just be grateful that no one was hurt.
